Failure.

February 19, 2010.

Failure, a word defined as ‘lack of success’, has an undeniable relationship to the words loss, disaster, and crash. It is a feeling and state that one applies to themselves in times of disappointment. To some, it may be the worst feeling in the world.

However, without this feeling of failure, we could never understand the true feeling of success. Failure pushes one to try harder, re-sparks determination, and forces one to rededicate themselves on a road toward success and all of the glory associated with it. It is a feeling that drives one in a direction that will prevent them from ever feeling it again.

Individuals who have not felt the feeling of failure, cannot truly embrace and soak in the feeling of success. Individuals who have felt the harsh moments of failure come before success with a preconceived idea of what it will feel like. Luckily, those who have felt failure underestimate the feeling of success, making the victory of it so much brighter. The moment leading up to the feeling of success is unique, almost a flashback of the road it took to arrive there. It’s as if time slowed down to open the photo album of all the effort, sweat, tears, blood, and time dedicated for the moment soon to come. For those who have never felt failure, its a book that is half full.

The relationship between failure and success is universal. It makes the feeling of landing that first rail feel heavenly, that game winning goal feel amazing, and to some around this time, that first Olympic medal, awe-inspiring.

I dont like it when things run smoothly.

Bumps in life shape us, they redirect us, they rededicate us.

Never forget where you’ve come from, for it is that path that has brought you to the joy you experience today.
